Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A device of silver color metal and enamel 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a circular silver scroll bearing the words "DUTY KNOWLEDGE SKILL" in black letters and encircling three silver points each surmounting a crenellated red base; issuant from behind the central point and extending over and above the scroll three silver feathers with black stripes.

Symbolism
Silver (or white) and scarlet are the colors of the Engineer Corps.  The crenellations are allusions to the Engineers' castle insignia and the points refer to the rugged Rockies which rise to the west of Fort Carson, where the Group is located.  The three feathers are a reference to Kit Carson, hunter, scout and Indian fighter, for whom the Fort was named.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 21 May 1968.
